Ash and Jeremy go to South Africa

Ash Chaplen from London Nexus and DYE sales rep Jeremy Klynsmith headed to South Africa recently for the first event of the South African GPPL series which took place at Blades and Triggers paintball field in Johannesburg. The GPPL series is sanctioned by SAPBA (South African Paintball Association) and the winner of the series is awarded the honor of being South Africa’s national team and representing the country in international tournaments.

Blades and Triggers is a world class venue! the excellent grass playing fields, elevated spectator decks and DYE scoreboard system on the main field made it a truly professional and well run tournament. There were some really exciting prelim games on the first day, it was good to see a bunch of new teams in the 3 man and 5 man Race To 2 divisions, a special shout out goes to Gavin Millar who despite his disability played the whole event in a wheel chair and blew people apart with his DYE NT!! Gavin was awarded Best Sportsman of the tournament for his amazing performance, much respect!!

The PRO division had some great games and big upsets on the first day as the teams tried to shake off the rust from the off season, Ash Chaplen joined DYE sponsored, team Awsim for the event and it soon became apparent that his experience and knowledge of the game was rubbing off on the rest of the team as Awsim made a steady improvement in their performance throughout the event which landed them in the finals against another DYE sponsored team, Reaper who were the GPPL champions in 2010.

Reaper are an exceptionally strong and experienced team, they were undefeated going into the finals however Awsim applied the knowledge and skills that they’d picked up from Ash throughout the tournament and put on a solid performance to take a convincing 4-1 victory over the Reaper boys.

After the event we stayed in Johannesburg a few extra days to soak in the amazing South African hospitality, Ash did tech class for some of our dealers to give them a better understanding of DYE and Proto markers and to help them provide their customers with the best support possible. A big thank you to the guys from Awsim and Reaper for showing us a good time, also a huge thanks to Ridwaan from Blades and Triggers for taking us around and showing us some of the amazing animals that South Africa has to offer, playing with baby Lion cubs was definitely one of the hi-lights of the trip!

We then flew down to Cape Town on the west coast of South Africa, a place which many would agree is one of the most beautiful cities in the world!  On the Saturday we drove out to Scarlet Paintball located in middle of the breath taking countryside and blessed with perfect weather, Ash gave a free clinic for all the Cape Town ballers. It was a great day and the players seem to really benefit from the training, Ash broke down the skills needed to compete at the highest level and offered one on one coaching to everyone who attended.

The next day we travelled to U-Tac Paintball for the Broken Arrow scenario game to meet more of the Cape Town paintball players, provide tech support for all DYE and Proto markers at the event and to also promote our new DYE Tactical line. Well done to Alan for putting on an amazing event! The U-Tac field is an incredible venue with excellent bush and urban fields, together with amazing props and interesting game scenarios it made for a really fun day of paintball.

A big thank you to Max for organizing the clinic and showing us around Cape Town, we had a great time in South Africa and look forward to being back there in the near future.
