PSP Announces Major League Change: Champions & Challengers Pro Divisions for 2013

Monday, January 28th, 2013

We are about to enter a new era of professional paintball…  Are you ready?  Here’s the latest from the PSP regarding their new Pro Divisions – Champions & Challengers:

[via PSPevents.com]  - “The level of talent in the PSP Professional Division is undisputedly the fiercest in the world.  Teams from all divisions train week in and out to ultimately one day become a Professional team in the PSP.  Actually making the advancement into Pro however, has historically been too large of a move for most teams to make.

The PSP would like to change this by putting a system into place for fresh teams to move into an even stronger Pro League.

The PSP Professional teams will compete against each other in the 2013 PSP Dallas Open.  The top 10 teams from that event will move on to PSP’s Event #2 and play in the newly established Champions Division.  They will perform on the main field for all the glory in front of thousands of fans watching from the PaintballAccess.com webcast and the PSP grandstands.

The other Pro teams from the Dallas Open will be enlisted in a new division known as the Challengers Division.  They will be joining other teams to be named at a later date.  The group of teams in the Challengers Divisions will use the same format and rules, but play on a secondary Professional field during the prelims and will play their final match on the main field for all their fans to watch.  Starting after Event #2, the top two teams from the Challengers Division in each event will move up and compete in the PSP Champions Division for the following event.  They will be replacing the bottom 2 finishers from the previous event’s Champions Division, who will instead perform in the Challengers Division.

This system of constant circulation will continue event by event for seasons to come.  It is now more important than ever for teams to give their all in each match – as they no longer have just one goal of winning the event – but must perform at their top in every game to make sure they do not suffer the consequence of being knocked out of the Champions Division.  Likewise, the Challengers Division teams at each event have the option to perform and move up for the following event.

The fight begins March 14, 2013 at the PSP Dallas Open.  Team Registration for all divisions opens soon at PSPevents.com.”

DYE PAINTBALL AND TEAM IRONMEN SIGN MARCELLO MARGOTT

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

San Diego, California (December 13th 2012)

DYE is proud to announce that Marcello Margott, PSP World Champion, former Ironmen player and PBA’s 2012 #2 ranked player in the world, has returned to his roots by signing a multi-year contract with Dye and their flagship team, the Los Angeles Ironmen.

Living just minutes away from Dye’s corporate Headquarters in San Diego, Marcello has been a part of the DYE family since he was 11 years old and just starting his paintball career. At the age of 17, Marcello made his pro debut with the Ironmen, winning two back-to-back championships in 2007 and 2008. It’s fitting he makes his return to the team while he is at the top of his game. Marcello is a born winner and a stand out professional who is prepared to put in the work it’s going to take to bring the Ironmen back to the top of the PSP.

“We are excited about Marcello’s return to the Ironmen and the Dye family. I’ve known Marcello since he was a kid and a rookie on the pro scene. Over the years I’ve seen him grow into one of the top players in the game and mature as a person to be a leader on and off the field. He is a natural fit for Dye and the Ironmen.” –Mikko Huttunen, Vice President Dye Precision, retired Ironmen All-Star

“Home is where the heart is… I’ve traveled around with a few different teams for the past four seasons and it feels great to land back with Dye. There’s no reason for the Ironmen not to be a championship level team this year.” – Marcello Margott

Dynamix, Reapers, Lordz Go 1-2-3 at 2012 Africa Cup

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Paintball Legend Max Lundqvist and Dye sales rep Jeremy Klynsmith headed down to South Africa recently for the 2012 Africa Cup in Johannesburg, SA.

by: Jeremy Klynsmith

The trip started off in Cape Town the weekend before Africa Cup. Max and I met up with Dye authorized tech, Troy Nagel and we headed down to attend the SARPL 3 Man at Paintball Kings, provide some tech support for all Dye and Proto markers at the event, and to give the Cape Town ballers a chance to learn from Max at his clinic.

Craig Marley from Dynamix is one of the nicest humans in the world and really went out of his way to be the perfect host and show us a good time in Cape Town, he took us down to his local watering hole on the beach and we had a few Castle beers and watched the sunset with the view on Table mountain in the background, it was the perfect end to a great day!

The SARPL 3 Man event was a really fun and well run event, we met a bunch of cool paintball players and had a great day! It was really encouraging to see how much paintball has grown in Cape Town since I was last there a year and a half ago. Max, Troy and Craig fielded a team called team DYEnosaurs, Troy decided to show off the amazing performance of the new Dye DAM tactical marker and played the entire event with it!It shot so consistently, didn’t break a ball all day and the team ended up taking 1st place!

The Dye CG paint was incredible. A big well done to Paul Grobler and his team for doing such a great job, Riaan from Paintball Kings for making us feel so welcome at his field and also a big thanks to the Blades and Triggers staff for getting our tech gear sent down from Joburg and making sure we got it at the event.

The next day we headed out to U-Tac Paintball for Max’s clinic, honestly one of the nicest scenario fields I have ever seen! We have already made plans to be back there next year with our DAM’s for one of their amazing scenario events, can’t wait!

There were a bunch of guys at the clinic, all the Cape Town paintballers were really awesome and positive, Max had a really fun day with them as he broke down all the technical aspects of the game and taught them the skills they need to take their game to the next level. Once again the Dye CG paint shot perfectly and everyone really enjoyed the day and took a lot away from it.

The next day we said our goodbyes and flew to Durban for a couple days, we met up with Roan and Bryan from Inspekta Gadget Paintball shop to check it out and catch up on old times. Max and I both surf so we headed to the beach afterwards and caught a few waves, it was a great day.

We then flew from Durban to Johannesburg for the main event, Africa Cup 2012 which was hosted by Blades And Triggers field. They have a world class facility there and they had setup a really impressive trade booth area at this year’s event so we got straight to work with setting up the Dye booth. Max ran his clinic the next day at the B&T field, he does a GREAT job! I’m sure that everyone that has been to one of his clinics will agree that he runs the best clinic on the planet! If you have the chance to attend one of his clinics, DO IT! Everyone learned a lot and had a fun day, once again the Dye CG paint shot flawlessly and the B&T staff were really helpful to make sure the day ran smoothly.

The tournament ran over the next 2 days and I really can’t say enough good things about it! The games ran on time, the reffing was good and the atmosphere amongst the players was electric. The Dye booth was open and we showcased all of the new 2013 product line to all the South African ballers, including the awesome new Dye DAM marker.

We also had our resident Dye tech, Troy Nagel on hand at the Dye tech booth to offer support to all the Dye and Proto markers at the event. Max put together team DYEnosaurs to play some exhibition games and it was a great weekend of paintball.

The hi-light of the event had to have been the baby Lion cubs that the guys at Blades And Triggers had arranged to be at the event on the last day, it was definitely a unique experience to have at a paintball tournament to have the chance to play with baby Lions!!

The Dye teams were looking unstoppable at this event. Dynamix have been playing great paintball all year long and showed up ready to win but they had some stiff competition between fellow Dye teams, team Reaper and team Lordz. There were some really exciting games all weekend but it ended up with Lordz taking 3rd place, Reaper taking 2nd place and Dynamix taking the win and the GPPL series championship for the year!

Dynamix shot Dye CG paint all year through their DM12′s and they are looking very strong going into next season. Congrats guys!

Well done to Ridwaan and all his crew from Blades And Triggers for hosting an incredible event and to the guys from GPPL and SASP formaking it all run smoothly. Definitely plan to be at this event next year!! We had a great trip and we are looking forward to being back there soon!
