The weekend of the 19/20 November saw the 7th annual UK Paintball Awards held in Birmingham, England. This event is the culmination of the UK paintball season and has an attendance in excess of 250 guests. For the past six years, the UK Paintball Industry have held an end of season awards ceremony to recognise those who have contributed to the game over the course of a season. The evening is a formal black tie and ball gown event and the Awards themselves are presented after a three course dinner and before the disco.
The Awards event is the only occasion in the calendar where players, event organisers, site owners, retailers, distributors and manufacturers all get to spend time together in a social situation. But it’s not all paintball paintball paintball….. Many of those attending are accompanied by their partners which gives the non-paintball people a chance to put the odd face to a name.
The Dog Soldiers were joined for the evening by DYE’s very own Rich Thornton. Nervousness grew around the table as the presentations approached, with the team having been nominated in three categories for the season. However, as the evening unfolded the nervousness turned to elation as the team claimed all three awards they were up for:
UK Scenario Team of the Year – Dog Soldiers
UK Male Player of the Year – Paul “Spoony” Given
UK Young Player of the Year – Jarreth “Shorty” Holden
It has been a long season in the UK and the team have racked up over 16 big games this year including the Super 6 series, Call to Duty II and III, Agimont big game in Belgium as well as the Oklahoma D-Day game alongside the Tactical Ironmen. The team set out with the aim of building on their 2010 success (where they won Breakthrough Team of the Year) and have exceeded their best expectations for one of the smaller teams on the circuit. It has been a great year with great teammates.
We would like to say a massive thanks to both BZ Paintball and DYE UK for their support and the use of the top class Dyecam tactical gear throughout the year – the camouflage really is some of the best we’ve ever seen. Also a massive thank you to the whole UK community for an amazing 2011 season.
The team are now looking to build on their foundations moving forward into 2012 – with the Super 6 series, Oklahoma D-Day and two more European big games on the calendar, three key General roles secured as well as some exciting kit innovations in the pipeline – it looks like an exciting season ahead once again!
See you on the field very soon………..
