Meet Nathan McDonnel of the powerhouse teams NVS and H2O.

Monday, March 24th, 2014

My name is Nathan McDonnell.  I am 32 years old and live in Brisbane, Australia.  I represent DYE PRECISION in two different teams here in good old Aus.

The first team I play for is team nVs.  At the end of the 2013 season, Nick Bancroft, Jake Spencer, John Robba, Ben and Karl Simpson and myself decided a change was needed and we formed team nVs.  We wanted a team that would not only be competitive but feared on the field.  We also wanted to be able to promote the sport off the field.

Our first tournament was at Round 1 of the Australian Super 7s at Action Paintball Games, Sydney.  Our very first match together was a little shaky but we came away with the win and then from that point we started to find our groove.  We only lost two matches over the weekend, one was to Sydney SWAT and the other to STK – STK of course being another DYE sponsored team.  Both these matches were close.  After finishing the prelims we were 7-2 which put us into a playoff for 3rd and 4th against East Side Raw from Brisbane.  After establishing an early lead we were able to run away with a 4-0 win and take 3rd place.  Even though we wanted to win the event, 3rd place to STK and Sydney SWAT (1st and 2nd place respectively) was a good start for us.

During the event we received a lot of positive feedback about our new DM14s and playing gear.  I also enjoyed using the new DM14.  It felt great and shot flawlessly straight out of the box.

The other team I play for is Hard 2 Overcome.  Towards the end of the 2013 season Devon Stutz informed me that they were looking for an extra player for their roster and after introducing me to their captain Craig McIver things started to fall into place.  After playing a race event with the guys at the end of last year I was offered a full time spot on their 2014 roster.  We competed in Round 1 of the Vic 5s on February 22nd and came away with the win.  We will be competing in the Vic Championships on the 22nd and 23rd March.  Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend this Round as I have just become a new Dad!

At every event and training session I’ve also been helping new players and other teams tech their DYE equipment.  The response I get for helping these other players is quite positive.

This year, at my local field Skirmish Samford, I have been running skills and drills sessions for players of all skill levels.  These sessions focus on speed and agility, gun maintenance, general game play and techniques.  I have been getting between 15-20 players regularly in attendance.  In running these sessions, it gives me satisfaction in knowing that I am helping to groom up players for the continued life of our sport in Australia.

See you at the 50, DYE for Life.

Hard2Overcome – PAVS Series 2013 Champions!

7th September 2013 – The 5th and final round of the Paintball Association of Victoria’s (PAVS) tournament paintball series was held at Adrenalin Paintball Club. Dye sponsored team Hard2Overcome went into the final round looking to continue their winning run by taking out the last round of PAVS on their home field.

A mild overcast day was on the cards with the chance of afternoon showers and for once the forecast was spot on. From the first game the team found themselves under aggressive attack from teams looking to stop their winning run, but by the time the break for lunch came the team had 5 straight wins. The afternoon was mixed with wins and then some games being dropped when the rain eventually came later in the day.

But in the end it was enough and Hard2Overcome narrowly came away with another 1st place with 7 wins & 3 losses. The result that day had topped off a great season said team captain Craig McIver, as we had 3 new players come onto the team at the start of the year and we really gelled fast. They are great guys and we all get along, and I feel even though we are still getting use to each other’s unique playing styles we are really enjoying our paintball as a team. As a bonus the second H2O team H2O Blue came second in Division 2 which gave them enough points to take the series win in their Division.

Now with the PAVS Division 1 Championship to their name Hard2Overcome will turn its sights to the Able Cup 5 Man Race Event in October. We need to once again give a huge shout out to Dye paintball and Devon Stutz for all of our awesome gear that never lets us down on the field.

Hard2Overcome become Victorian State Champions! – Australia

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

DYE would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to our Aussie friends Hard2Overcome who recently took 1st and 3rd place at the Victorian Championships Race Event!

From Craig Mclver, Captain Hard2Overcome:

“Saturday 23rd March kicked off the first ever Victorian Championships Race Event held at Adrenalin Paintball Club, in Newborough Australia. The field itself is a soccer ground that the club shares for its tournaments and sets up on the week leading up to the event, and once over dismantles and stores everything away in there club house located at the venue. With rain and large winds in the days leading up to the event it was a relief to have a clear sky with some cloud as the event kicked off. The events games were played as a standard 5 man to 3 point on a Race 2 format.

Local Dye sponsored team Hard2Overcome was hoping that there home ground advantage would help them continue their great start to the year with another win after taking out Round 1 of PAVS. After dropping the first game of the day to their sister team H2O Blue, they adjusted some elements of their game plan and went into the lunch break with 2 wins & 1 loss. As the day progressed a lot of teams were all equal on points and it came down to the last round to decide who would play the finals.

H2O Blue played off for 3rd place in the finals against Tension who had recruited two Sydney Swat players with the end result being Tension wining 3-0 and taking out 3rd place. The final to see who would be the first team to be named Victorian State Champions would see South East Cartel against Dye’s own Hard2Overcome who were separated by 1 body in the lead up to the final.

From the first game Hard2Overcome placed heavy lanes towards the entry of Cartels key bunkers in a bid to stop them attacking from both the snake and Dorito side. The first point would go to Hard2Overcome after just 60 seconds of aggressive play without dropping a body. The second point seen Cartel bunker in hard at their initial positions and Hard2Overcome were forced to roll their guns in a bid to prevent them advancing, this made for a longer drawn out point which Hard2Overcome would drop only 1 body and go 2-0 with only 1 win away from the title. Off the break Hard2Overcome were more aggressive in their attack which seen them drop a couple of players and by the time they hung the flag for the third and final time they had 1 player left which was enough to win the final 3-0.

Hard2Overcomes captain Craig McIver said that the event was fantastic and had a great vibe in the pits. Every team played well on the day and created a challenge for us. We knew that come the finals we would be up against a tough opponent and Cartel always give us a great match. I am so proud of everyone on the team, the guys played outstanding today and we are now looking forward to the next round of PAVS. We would just like to thank Dye Asia and Devon Stutz for all the support they give us, and for letting us take the field with our DM13′s which once again were absolutely flawless and one of the reason we now have this title.”
